The play is in
the design!

Hi! I'm Morgana Tatton. I’m a UX/UI designer. I love crafting delightful user experiences that achieve business goals.

Check out my work!

HM Revenue and Customs

VAT One Stop Shop

Role
Senior Interaction Designer
Industry
Government, Consultancy
One Stop Shop is a live service for Northern Ireland traders to conduct their VAT payments for all EU member states in one place. I designed the deregistration journey and secure messaging system, and made major design improvements on every part of the service.

The improved service hit the government Service Standard and achieved all required delivery targets.
“I worked with Morgana for a year on a Borders & Trade service at HMRC where they were a great team member with a positive can-do attitude. They worked under challenging conditions coming into a well established team and product, but managed to apply their design skills to progress both our process flows and prototypes to an extremely high level.

“They were a great communicator both within the delivery team and with the stakeholder group and built up strong rapports with everyone they came across. It was a pleasure working with them and hopefully we cross paths again in future!”

-Jonathan Coulter, Product Owner
Problem
Before I joined, users had to contact HMRC directly to leave the One Stop Shop service. This took up valuable civil service time, and was confusing to users.
Solution
I created the user deregistration flow. I also updated the account page so deregistered users could see their details while seeing their status as no longer in the service.
Outcome
After the deregistration process was built, users no longer had to contact the team to leave the service, and could see that they were deregistered from their account page.

This effectively ended all deregistration calls.

Comcast and Sky

Screen Magnifier

Role
Senior UX Designer

Oh no! I’m not allowed to publicly share the details of my work for Sky and Comcast. It is under NDA.

You can get in touch with me directly to see a presentation, as long as you are not one of their competitors.

But I can share great recommendations. And some abstract representations of the fun design process.
“Morgana is a highly skilled and enthusiastic problem solver with strong communication, presentation and collaboration skills.

“Since day one when they joined our design team at Sky, Morgana showed a great can-do attitude and the ability to quickly pick up on our products, processes, and ways of working, as well as being an exceptional fit for our team culture.

“Morgana’s UX craft is laser-focused on users’ needs with strong attention to detail and really amazing creative flair. Also, their emotional intelligence and analytical mindset have proved of great value during user testing and throughout every single project they’ve worked on.

I loved working with Morgana, and I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to add a fresh and positive spin to their team.”

-Hujir Shohadai, Lead UX Designer
Problem
Certain users had sight-related accessibility needs. I spoke to these users. I reviewed our competitors. I spoke with designers and developers who had worked on the same problem. I ran guerrilla tests within the team to test my ideas.
Solution
Working with prototypes created by a  UI designer and a developer, I designed the accessibility feature including how to access it, and how to control it. The control scheme was particularly challenging because of specific limitations that only exist on TV interfaces.
Outcome
We tested the prototype with accessibility users, where it passed all benchmarks.

HM Courts & Tribunals Service

Child arrangements

Role
Interaction Designer
Industry
Government, Consultancy
A child arrangement is an agreement that separated parents make around how they will support their children after a split. I redesigned the process for applying for a court order related to child arrangements.

I inherited a first draft of incomplete and incorrect designs which I brought to the government delivery standard for the first release and beyond.
“Morgana is a self-starter who brings drive, enthusiasm, and expertise to every project. They’re able to take on the most complex briefs, and deliver on time and to the highest standards.

“At HMCTS, they were able to work from limited design artifacts to create a sophisticated end-to-end application prototype that tested well with users.

“Clients value them for their strategic insight, and they are always supportive of their colleagues.”

-Jason Theodorou, Content Design Lead
Problem
Before I came on board the existing prototype draft was incomplete and contained many errors, unnecessary steps and usability problems.
Solution
Along with the Senior Service Designer and working with subject matter experts, I reviewed all screens and parts of the existing flow.

I mapped out the whole flow for the service accurately, and fixed accessibility and usability issues.
Outcome
Ultimately, the revised prototype was used to create a new application process. This passed review and hit the Government Service Standard.
